I really enjoyed my experience as a Business Development & Marketing Intern in the DC office. In the year and a half I spent at TRAG, I had the opportunity to work closely with directors and C-level individuals which provided me with invaluable experience. My boss, the Business Development Coordinator quickly gave me challenging and interesting tasks that enabled me to master my skills and learn new ones along the way. I also really appreciated being able to develop a strong relationship with the marketing department in London. This helped me gain experience communicating with an international department. As for company culture, the company has great clubs you can join (i.e culture club or sustainability club) that allow you to get to know people in different departments. While I was there I was a part of the culture club and was able to help plan our Christmas dinner and summer party! I also really appreciated how dedicated they were to professional growth.
단점:The Washington DC office is on the smaller size. I didn’t mind this because it allowed me to develop deeper professional relationships with certain individuals, but if you're looking for that big office feel the DC office might not be the place for you.

I worked at TRAG's DC office doing Marketing & Business Development and definitively got a lot out of it. As a recent college graduate, I took a position with TRAG with little experience and not really knowing what to expect. I was quickly given challenging & interesting tasks that pushed me to refine my skills, while also learning new ones. The DC office is small, tight knit group of teams that work closely... together. Additionally, I got to work with international teams such as the London Office's marketing team, which was a plus. Lastly, my supervisor, The Business Development Coordinator, taught me valuable skills and was an overall pleasure to work with.
단점:I do not have many cons for TRAG's DC office, however, if you are looking for a work environment with weekly events or tons of company culture activities, this might not be the place for you. There are some after work activities but they are not frequent.

The core of the work that TRAG provides for analysis and exercise is, without-question, some of the most interesting and challenging content a young professional working in D.C. will encounter. From financial, political, and security inquiry and determination on broad and precise levels, to engaging in and working-out the nuances of expressing risks to clients, what I would call an art, research associates and... interns at TRAG can expect a diverse array of independent thought process to cover their workloads. Such workloads typically include helping private and public sector clients assess their business-related conductions and transactions, but can also involve investigating into, for example, complexly intricate financial services fraud syndicates. Importantly, such work as described is headed and assisted by noticeably educated, intelligent, and diligent D.C. staff. At TRAG, you will work with many of the smartest people you'll ever come-across professionally. Various staff hold Ph.Ds., speak multiple languages (largely Spanish and/or Arabic), and have an uncanny knack for felicitous writing.
단점:My overall con with my experience at TRAG (which, mind-you, was cut-short by a job offer from the USG) was that the intended and required style of writing, for the general work, was something that appeared instantly expected by senior staff. Because of that expectation, in addition a lack of awareness that informal training and guidance would be helpful, I felt that some my works could have been improved had... staff took the time to guide me more intimately. From the outset, I sort of felt like a lone wolf tackling different writing projects; and trust me, I have the capacity to take that position on and frankly I prefer it, but that approach was reinforced in a manner that didn't inform whether what I was doing was precisely desired, rather it sort of felt that (at times, at-least) that staff just wanted me work on SOMETHING. Yet, this perception was particularly confusing when I was specially commended for various works, but not necessarily for others; by not necessarily for others, I mean that I received no genuine feedback on work, and because I learned trial-by-fire initially, I couldn't exactly pinpoint my general progress to feedback provided. Essentially, I think Management should consider drafting informal guidance on writing styles desired, as well as consider the level of genuine feedback staff provide one another. No employee should feel that their writing style sometimes works, and sometimes doesn't, without clear guidance and training on what style of writing TRAG desires. I think upper-level, Management staff have a big role to play here. BE CLEAR---from the get-go and throughout---on what you are looking for writing-wise, and don't provide feedback/guidance in a frustrated and thus unprofessional way. Your talent is a good as you counsel and treat them.

I am a recent college graduate who has worked for the Latin American group at TRAG's US office for the past 10 months. My work consisted of compliance research and writing through various types of reports for legal, financial and energy companies in the US and abroad. I found my work to be both interesting and challenging and would recommend the company to anyone interested in the field. A few of the many factors... that added to my positive experience at the company are listed below: Atmosphere and Work Culture: The team consists of around 10 people who are smart, funny and engaging, ranging from directors of the company to research associates. From day one I felt not only welcomed at the office but happy to be there. Never was I pressured to work in a way in which I wasn't comfortable and instead was given the tools and guidance to excel. Work Experience: Even after four years of completing a research and writing intensive major, 10 months ago both of these skills of mine paled in comparison to where they are now. Research associates I worked with placed a heavy focus on analytical research and precise editing, using various legal, corporate and media databases. I was also engaged in frequent correspondence with our contacts in Latin America which greatly benefited my Spanish. Upper level / Management - While I had read negative comments prior to accepting the position concerning the treatment of associate ideas for development coming from the managers of the office, I found the opposite to be true. Even considering my junior status, I was given multiple opportunities to sit-in on upper-level conversations and asked for my input as a researcher on various ideas by the office directors. During my time at the office I witnessed research associates taking initiative on business development ideas they found interesting, and in turn receiving full support from the office directors.
단점:While not necessarily a con for some, I did see that myself and many of my co-workers would stay past 6pm to finish certain reports that needed to go out. While this is not regularly the case and I enjoyed staying to complete my work, if you do not independently manage your time well you can expect to stay in the office later than you normally would.

I spent a number of years working at Risk Advisory and had the opportunity to complete extended stints in several of its global offices. Throughout my time there, I was impressed by the high intellectual calibre of my co-workers, the breadth of different issues we covered as a firm and the growth opportunities that were afforded to talented recruits. Employees with good ideas and ambition were encouraged to take... ownership of their vision and pursue initiatives for which they had identified a potential market, and recognised for their effort. This recognition often took the form of secondments to different overseas offices, management responsibility and wider exposure to client-facing opportunities. The people I worked with were dedicated and hard-working, but also interesting, engaging and professional.
단점:While I was working at Risk Advisory, we frequently heard urban legends about how our competitors paid their staff much more. However, in the course of my subsequent conversations with colleagues working at other firms, I learned that this is not necessarily the case. Certainly, there is some variation but whatever differences may exist in base salary levels are more than made up for (in my opinion anyway) by the... flexibility I was afforded and the generous annual leave and health insurance benefits offered to employees.

You can leave. I should have left earlier- or never joined. some truly smart people there, but they never last long.
단점:the turnover speaks for itself. Unreasonable workloads most of the time, bad pay for the hours we put in, and the worst management I've seen. Bullying is rife and accepted as normal. Discrimination is common, and condoned.

You are constantly surrounded by some really brilliant people who never fail to help when asked. There is definitely a sense of camaraderie among the more junior staff that makes joining feel less intimidating. The work is interesting for the most part - some projects can be more of a slog than others while others can be extremely engaging. TRAG also has the best recruitment process I've ever been through. It was... completely professional from start to finish and I was always kept in the loop.
단점:Salary could be better especially for the hours we do work. Most TRAGers work well past 6pm, are always on email and often working on weekends. More consistent training and more bespoke training are a must - it felt very inconsistent and haphazard, especially as line managers and group directors were rarely involved.

단점:The company seems to invest in people EXCEPT if you were in the now defunct Employee screening department, which I happened to be a part of. Sadly, the people in this department were made to feel like second rate citizens through and through, which I think speaks about the ethics of the company, regardless of the other achievements/ engagement for the other staff. Where the other departments were allowed foreign... language training, listening to music, going on events, working from home, this department didn't benefit from any of it and it was a particularly sad sight during last winter's snow-ins to see one department having to stay in the office, while all the others could casually leave and work from home.

Note: I worked in the due diligence/business intelligence division of Risk Advisory. - The team is full of friendly, smart, hard-working people. - The work is intellectually engaging, rarely gets boring or tedious. - Not sure how the culture at London headquarters is, but the satellite office I worked in was far removed from any pernicious office politics and passive aggressive and hostile behaviours. Everyone... was generally friendly to one another. There wasn't much teamwork as everyone does his/her own reports.
단점:The company's main issue is that it expects a lot from its employees without giving them proper training and feedback. The work is not easy and new hires without prior experience in the due diligence industry may be slow to get up to speed and fulfill the management's expectations. As a result, several people did not pass their 6-month probation shortly before and during my time working there. The interns, too, come... and go without undergoing proper training and receiving much guidance. On the other hand, those who thrive work long hours (late in the evening and in weekends). The pay is okay but there many other jobs with better work-life balance. Perhaps this is just the nature of the due diligence industry. The key to do well here is to be very proactive and engage your seniors/managers regularly to know how you are doing. Then spend time reflecting on their feedback and implement it in your work. Otherwise you may think that things are going alright until they tell you in the 11th hour that you are not up to standard. The hiring process was a bit reactive and haphazard. For example, there was a time when the management was expecting several projects in X country, and thus there was an instant impetus to hire someone who speaks the language there. But then when business slowed down, that person's abilities might become a little redundant (and this probably gave the company another reason not to pass his/her probation, which was long enough for the business to ebb and flow and gave the management enough time to assess if this employee was needed in the long-term).

Due to the flash website and fledgling political risk analysis industry in London, the company still attracts a solid group of high achieving, highly motivated graduates. However, we all leave within a 6 month period.

- Gain some experience in understanding the process of applications to firms are like behind the scenes and what the screening process is like. - Good location - Good office and building - Slightly flexible lunch hours
단점:- If seeking qualification proof and employment references is being a "research analyst" then I believe the word 'research' is definitely being used in the wrong context. - False advertisements on the job description. You will simply process applications its all a fancy way to say 'External HR'. - You will not mitigate any sort of risk on any sort of level. - Very sour office environment. Small office but... you'll feel 100 miles away from different departments and their terrible attitude doesnt do this any help. You would have thought they were earning 10x your salary but they're earning around 3% more. Very anti social and it will show on your first day until your last. - Terrible terrible pay for 9-6pm in central London. - No sort of movement or promotions to other departments despite various attempts by various employees. - Very high turnover of staff. Says it all. - Very unrealitic expectations of workload (built up to over 45 cases). You're set up to fail and receive little to no support. Everyone is too busy with their workload/stress. Definitely not worth the pay you're getting. Perfection is also expected but is genuinely borderline impossible to build any sort of consistency. - Really requires no educational background. Very very diverse graduate backgrounds so do not expect to use anything you learned in your degree here. If I had to use a word of what you'll become the longer you do this its: Brain-dead

The position allowed me to develop experience and skills in risk and threat analysis, open source research and writing intelligence briefings. Working on Risk Advisory's TerrorismTracker database gave me a great overview of the different terrorist groups active around the world, while working on intelligence briefings built up my skills in writing tailored security assessments for clients. It was a perfect... transition from studying after masters. The position was titled junior analyst rather than intern, which is much better on the CV, and is also paid. The team was also relatively young and dynamic, with a range of backgrounds, languages and experiences. This made the department quite social in and outside of work. Although the work was quite fast paced at times, there was a lot of support and encouragement from the team. The Junior Research Analysts had a dedicated line manager, who did a great job of ensuring personal development and providing support in all aspects of the job.
단점:As the position was temporary and open-ended there is of course some uncertainty, which is a drawback. However, my line manager kept me in the loop, and in my experience, people in the JRA position decide to move on themselves after gaining the skills they need, rather than the contract coming to an end. This seems to work well for both parties as long as you're not expecting to be in the position long term. As... it is a relatively small team, options for promotion were fairly limited. Low pay (but a lot better than an unpaid internship which is now common after masters).

단점:The salaries are overall very low for highly educated and intelligent people, which makes the turn-over at the company ridiculously high. Add the terrible management and you have a mess of a work-place with long hours and zero benefits.

-Good if you are interested specifically in political risk. -Posh offices with nice views (if you are into that sort of thing). -Free coffee/tea. -Some potential for advancement. I was contacted subsequently with further work/vacancies. -Some of the work outside of the regular intern tasks were interesting.
단점:-Very strange office culture. Completely silent, no-one acknowledges you in the morning. Even at lunchtime social interaction is subdued - as a result it comes across as an unfriendly/unhappy place. -The internship is unpaid. -Limited training.

I was at the company for a number of years, working with many talented and intelligent people who really cared about their clients and backing up the claim that the company is a high quality service provider. There have been times when I have spent long hours in the office and pushed myself to the limit - I was never asked to do overtime - but I was willing to do so because I identified with this ethic and signed up... to the concept. I always felt that I could be myself and was encouraged and trusted to take on more senior roles throughout my time at the firm. There has been almost a family atmosphere, whereby the team works closely together and more senior management will interact with staff across the divisions. With a culturally diverse staff, it is a great environment in which to learn about different ways of doing things and building international understanding.
단점:Considering that the company is located in London Bridge, in an expensive and comparatively central area, the salaries for those lower down the chain create a challenge for staff to cope financially. Coupled with the long working hours (9-6) and relatively high pressure working environment, it can tend to put off high calibre applicants and discourage the most talented staff from remaining. That said, the company... has recently increased starting salaries to meet the London Living Wage criteria and introduced some additional benefits for existing staff.

The work is interesting and the subject matter varied. I received training to help with knowledge and skill in important areas, especially communications and key legislation. Co-workers were generally helpful and friendly. Worked with some very clever people. I developed my skills from junior starting position and left for more senior job elsewhere.
단점:Working hours quite unpredictable, and can be long - especially around short-notice client deadlines

The work is often interesting. Good place to start a career. Get a lot of responsibility early in your career, and some opportunities for promotion.
단점:Some of the senior management is rude and unpleasant to work with. The CEO sets an awful example for the rest of the company, and he has created an environment where bullying is seen as acceptable. The CEO talks a lot about the integrity and ethics of the company. But the CEO himself takes a pragmatic approach, including when dealing with employees. The senior management is a old boys club. It matters who you went pheasant shooting with. The pay is not competitive, so the company has a problem with retaining decent employees.

The work is very interesting and there are a lot of opportunities to learn. The company provides good staff benefits and a decent salary. There are also quite a few training opportunities and the chance to attend industry seminars and conferences.
단점:Bad management, no proper HR, expected to give up any notion of a work-life balance, a lot of unhappiness particularly amongst the research associates and lower level managers. Very little support from managers. High staff turnover at the lower level.
