- a great place to work; some of the reviews on here just aren’t fair. - wide variety of really interesting work. - if you want responsibility and to put yourself out there, there are endless opportunities if you go and find them. - increasingly commercial and less academic focus, which is absolutely the right approach. - unbelievable client list given the size of the company. - flexible working - amazing and... totally supported by management. - good performance is recognised and rewarded. - lots of offices globally which gives you the chance to work with a diverse group of interesting and clever people.

단점:

- there’s no list of every employee’s salary stuck to the fridge!! ....some reviews on here basically want this. No private company provides total transparency on pay. The process on pay rises and bonuses is as transparent as it can be without revealing who gets paid what - which wouldn’t be fair. If you want published pay scales, go and work in the public sector.

- lots of opportunities to produce interesting and impactful analysis and work on high-profile consulting projects - encouraged to develop thematic expertise - generally great analyst teams to work with - flexible and remote working, which is excellent

단점:

- pay is generally lower than competing businesses, there are some discrepancies around pay levels for people with the same job title/level of experience, and lack of transparency around pay bands. - the ability to progress with the company is inconsistent across teams, with some individuals quickly moving up the ladder and others left behind - experiences vary widely in terms of management, with the quality of... the work you produce meaning very little to some in senior positions, who are more impressed with smoke and mirrors. - high staff turnover with no replacements for critical roles, resulting in understaffed teams and an increased reliance on outsourcing as opposed to investing in employees. - over-reliance on corporate speak. - long-winded progress to publish reports or insights, with significant differences in the quality and depth of reviews depending on the analyst.

"Disorganized company; repetitive and ethically unsound work"

Access to reports from other regions of the world. Ability to work remotely and with a flexible schedule.

단점:

All sections of the company that I had an experience with seemed to be completely disorganized. Sometimes I couldn't believe that they were still in business. Analyst work is repetitive, mindless, and of little vale. Analysts are tasked to write reports that contain little new information, while being pushed to make predictions (regardless of potential accuracy), restate and reference previous reports, and make the... world look like it's perpetually going up in flames. The company does not seem to know the direction it is headed in. There are continuous changes in overall strategy that don't serve any clear purpose beyond short-term survival. As stated in other reviews, the company seems to hire externally instead of promoting its own people. Low pay. Lastly, if you care about the ethical direction of your work, I wouldn't recommend that you work here. Maplecroft's clients aren't necessarily the best companies in the world and you could end up enabling some troubling behavior. Do your own research.

The human rights team, in particular, contributes to a significant amount of interesting, high-value consulting work that often provides unique learning and development opportunities • Employees are provided with a high degree of autonomy to deliver on their commitments. Analysts, even those at the early stages of their careers, have lots of opportunities to contribute to product development, client engagement and overall business strategy. Analysts are also encouraged to get involved in developing the company CSR strategy, while others have been given the opportunity to lead not-for-profit projects in their specialist area • Analysts have unparalleled opportunities to engage with the media. Staff are regularly invited by international media to provide commentary on major world events, allowing them to demonstrate their expertise and build their personal brands • Being part of the Verisk family provides the company with the necessary resources and capital to continue to grow and expand. Maplecroft is highly regarded by senior leadership at Verisk, and opportunities exist for staff to move into other areas of the Verisk business if they so wish, or collaborate with Verisk colleagues on bespoke projects and not-for-profit initiatives.

단점:

• Cross-team communication can be a challenge, largely due to the increasing number of office locations and time zones. However, the introduction of internal communication systems is helping this • Small teams, particularly in the research arm of the business, contribute to a heavy workload for current staff and can lead to competing and shifting priorities • Focus on data means that many qualitative researchers... can feel removed from the business strategy, and somewhat insecure about their career progression

"Frustrating and dysfunctional, despite reform efforts"

• The company’s wide-ranging remit means that the workload can be interesting and varied, though this has become less the case over time as roles have become more fixed. • Policy allowing employees to work from anywhere in the world gives workers a lot of flexibility and opportunities to immerse themselves in their regions of interest, provided they are able to fund it themselves. • Some managers – notably those... with experience outside Maplecroft – are supportive of their staff and encourage their professional development, giving those individuals a decent shot at a satisfying career within the company.

단점:

• As several of the other reviews mention, prior to being acquired by Verisk this company was characterised by an extremely toxic culture. Although this is no longer imposed from the top, the superficial reforms that have been introduced have not been enough to remove the poison from the system. Within certain teams, practices such as insulting and deriding staff, labelling doubts as dissent, and lying about staff... to senior management remain commonplace. • Senior management and HR are geographically remote from most of the rest of the company – and frankly, in most cases make little effort to get to know the rank and file even when they are around. They are entirely reliant on middle managers for their impression of their own staff – which makes the practices I mentioned above even more of a problem. If you have a misunderstanding with your manager, or if they simply don’t like you, you’re liable to be labelled a troublemaker and shown the door. • Professional and career development has been very much neglected – both in terms of tangible rewards such as pay rises and promotions, and in terms of personal and skills development. As a result, there are a lot of bright, frustrated analysts who want to move up but can’t see a path, and the rate of turnover is extremely high. Meanwhile, senior roles need to be filled with external hires. • The decision to create separate consulting and research teams has led to a distinct hierarchy, where the former take on the most challenging and high-profile projects while the latter (including many knowledgeable and experienced staff) churn out repetitive reports.

"Promising, innovative company"

I worked in the Analytics Team at Verisk Maplecroft for more than four years and had a very positive experience. There is plenty of scope for innovation - for example (and perhaps providing a rebuttal to some of the previous reviews posted) since the introduction of new leadership in mid-2015 my team were able to implement a comprehensive review of all of our political risk methodologies, a process that was greatly... enhanced by the contribution of the company's excellent Politics Team. Furthermore, the in-house software and GIS teams mean that the company has the ability to quickly introduce new, unique tools and products. Verisk Maplecroft's products are utilised by an impressive group of world-leading multinationals and, at least in the Analytics Team, there is a lot of opportunity to interact with clients. For those interested in developing a public profile in risk analysis, the company's exceptional media and communications team provide numerous opportunities to work with the press. In terms of work-life balance, it is my view that the company has made significant improvements in this area. There is a lot of flexibility in terms of working hours and location, both of which I found invaluable. I also found that, in its current incarnation, Verisk Maplecroft is a highly compassionate company, ensuring that employees with health or other personal issues receive the support they require. If and when people choose to leave the company, they typically go on to very well-respected firms, including multinationals, other risk consultancies or government and non-government organisations.

단점:

Verisk Maplecroft has gone through a phenomenal degree of change since the new leadership came in. While this has created many opportunities for employees, it has, understandably, created some tension within the business as the structure of the company and its products have been realigned. I would suggest that there is now a considerable need for a period of consolidation to avoid fatigue setting in with the rate of... change. In terms of career advancement, it's my view that that company needs to provide a clear framework for progression, particularly for more senior analysts.
