Excellent colleagues and research environment coupled with good facilities and reasonable benefits make Argonne a place where one can make their career.
단점:Burdensome safety culture and lackluster senior management can even turn experienced and productive scientists into wary ones. Salaries for scientists on the lower scale relative to the market.

Great health benefits. Decent work/life balance.
단점:Managment was fine to good until they brought in a "house cleaner" who hasn't been able to keep a coherent team together since laying of a very high percent of their direct reports. People start and then keep leaving, and any positive perception that Argonne staff had seems to have disappeared.

Excellent compensation and benefits package as compared to similar organizations. The advantage of living in a suburb near Chicago. High quality life. Excellent research facilities and people are generally very helpful towards post-docs. Overall a good place to make a lifelong career if you can find a permanent position.
단점:Pace of work is slow mainly because of the amount of paperwork involved. No clear guidance on transition to a permanent position. Many times you have to generate your own work otherwise you can be here for two years and have nothing to show for it.

The salary is high comparing with the university postdoc. The working time is flexible. you have 1.25 day/ month for vacation. Campus is big and university like.
단점:1, The research in the lab is sloppy, and the fame for some divisions is not good, such as bioscience. All the scientists (PI) have no tenure. If the PI is not in a famous group such as APS, CNM which are supported by DOE as the user facilities, they are very hard to survive. So is the postdoc, if you are not join a group in a big center, you cannot get any good training for your career. And you might face with the... funding problems, and sometime you cannot finish the first year. Most postdoc need at least two years to get some decent results to publish. 2, The recruiters are prohibited to enter the lab. So there is not opportunities such as the campus recruiting. 3, The collaboration sucks. The lab have some very good instrument, but you cannot use it only if you are the "user". you need tedious training by the staff who can get the credit by training you. You never can use the SEM or TEM as in universities. 4, the research level is low considering the billion funding they got. There is no famous researcher for many years, maybe no member of NAS or NAE. If you are considering to enter the academic, not a good place to be a postdoc here. 5, too much politics, as I said, if you are not in a "group" (some centers), you are really hard to survive. This is the reason why nobody quit their university position to the lab and some guys move to the university.

Very nice people there. They are all very enthusiastic, kind and helping. The facilities are very good too. Funding is also not hard to get. Definitely a very good place to do research.
단점:It is a bit far from the city. And too much traffic going back and forth. Not many activities going on around there.
